Frequently Asked Questions

How is Scholarion different to other Microsoft Dynamics solutions?

Scholarion makes use of native Microsoft Dynamics functionality, while others rely on code to imitate this functionality. By utilising the native functionality, any changes made by Microsoft can be quickly incorporated. While the appearance and experience may seem alike, the variances stem from the amount of customised coding (vendor lock-in) and configurations employed.

How viable will this solution be for small to medium schools? What does the support model look like for schools interested in the platform but don’t have the resources to support the in-house complexities of a Microsoft Dynamics stack?

The solution is suitable for small to medium schools if it comes with a robust support model, which Atturra offers as part of our package.

Is there a bespoke solution for each school?

Scholarion will be established in each school’s Microsoft Dynamics’ tenant with a base configuration. It is designed to be adaptable to each school’s needs.

How does Atturra approach the implementation process and support structure for Scholarion, and how will schools be supported?

Atturra has a structured approach to implementation with dedicated support teams for different needs, like user and technical support and ongoing development. This includes a specialised help desk during critical periods like report season ensuring focused assistance.

What are the levels and types of support available with Scholarion?

Fully managed and supported, or you can develop your own module and manage yourself with Atturra patching and updating.

What updates occur to Scholarion?

Microsoft releases Dynamic Wave updates every 18 months. Atturra will test and deploy these updates, which will bring new and improved capabilities. Additionally, updates will be made every 6 to 12 months based on client feedback. The aim of these updates is to enhance functionality by leveraging new platform capabilities and meeting client requirements.

What about education-specific requirements?

Scholarion handles complex families, multiple enrolments, multiple campuses, multiple schools, customers and accounts, government reporting and state requirements.

When it comes to predicting costs, how is licensing for Microsoft Dynamics, Power Apps, Power BI, and Copilot going to work?

Costs will be calculated based on licensing agreements for these Microsoft products. These costs are determined by the agreements with the relevant education authority, i.e., the independent sector, the Catholic sector, etc. Copilot is included as part of the Microsoft Dynamics license. We have provided a Bill of Materials to Microsoft to determine license requirements, and costs would depend on the number of users and the modules adopted.

Can Scholarion interface/connect with other products?

Yes, it can through open API – Dataverse and with specialist solutions like Edval and Timetabler, HR Solutions, MyGov, Payment systems, Data platforms.

Is the data model consistent for each school? If so, how could the integration APIs be tailored for my school?

The data model has core consistency across implementations, but specific additional data may be added for each school. Integration APIs will be standard for most common education applications with Dataverse providing integration capabilities to accommodate different data models where customisation is involved.

Can we integrate with Clipboard, Schoolbox, and Edval? Any APIs already built?

Integration with systems such as Edval and Timetabling Solutions are already built into Scholarion. The integration will be straightforward if the system has available APIs because Microsoft Dynamics 365 has a Dataverse that provides an integration capability. Custom development may be necessary if the other systems do not have APIs.

Can you please describe in non-technical terms what Microsoft Dynamics configurable means?

Microsoft Dynamics is like a flexible toolkit that can be customised to fit a school’s specific needs. You can choose and adjust features to best suit your school’s operations without building everything from scratch.

If other schools join this model, who will take the lead on configuration requests? How will the roadmap be established?

Atturra will take the lead on configuration requests. The roadmap will be collaboratively developed and will consider the needs of existing and future schools while maintaining a balance between flexibility and standardisation.

Does your configuration have codes to match the government reporting codes?

The system configuration will include government reporting to ensure appropriate government reporting codes are used, facilitating compliance and accurate reporting.

How will academic reports and government reporting be done in this system?

Academic and government reporting will be handled through pre-configured templates and reporting tools within the system, ensuring that data is presented correctly for academic purposes and government submission.

How does the data look in an academic report?

The data in an academic report will be formatted to show student performance, attendance, and other relevant metrics clearly and will be aligned with school standards.

How are you handling the parent-student relationship in the Microsoft ecosystem? Where is that outlined and defined?

The system manages the parent-student relationship in the People and Profiles module. It can record the nature of the relationships and manage the complex nature of family communications.

Microsoft’s major updates often consist of removing support functions and/or changes to how their ecosystem communicates. How can we ensure that upcoming changes don’t affect the tenant?

Regular monitoring and testing will occur in a staging environment before updates are pushed to production to ensure that changes do not adversely affect the school’s tenant. Changes in the Microsoft business applications differ from those experienced in the Microsoft infrastructure areas.
