Business Opportunity

For the past eight years, FMF had relied on its core QAD 2015 enterprise resource planning (ERP) platform to support its growing manufacturing and distribution operations. The application handled everything from the acquisition of raw materials to the delivery of food products to retail customers.

However, as FMF continued to expand, the company recognised the need for an upgraded ERP system that could address evolving business demands and further enhance operational efficiency.

The existing on-premise deployment of QAD, whilst reliable, presented limitations for the company, as there was a growing complexity to the manufacturing processes. Access from other locations and remotely, including oversight and inventory management was challenging. The ability to upgrade or improve to match growing demands was constrained and led to inefficiencies in cost controls. FMF therefore, sought a more flexible, cloud-based approach to support this increasingly complex process and improve overall productivity.

Solution

FMF had enjoyed a close working relation with Atturra’s manufacturing specialists for a long time and so a decision was taken to seek their support and extensive knowledge for a project to upgrade the existing application. After reviewing a range of options, a decision was made in early 2023 to implement a web-based version of QAD Adaptive ERP.

Atturra arranged a series of project planning sessions with FMF’s internal project team to review the project scope, timelines, roles and responsibilities. A timeline was also created to ensure the deployment could be completed without causing disruptions to business operations.

As well as planning, the deployment comprised the design and configuration of the new platform, thorough testing, and management of the ‘go live’ phase. Working with the internal IT team, Atturra also undertook a database conversion to shift data from the existing on-premise servers to the cloud.

The deployment project was started in August 2023 and the new application went live in March 2024, two months ahead of the planned schedule.

Outcomes achieved

With the new cloud-based ERP platform fully functional, FMF was quickly enjoying some significant business benefits.

One of the most significant has been the process used for issuing invoices. The upgraded QAD platform had optimised the order to invoice time by 20%. Other internal processes have also been streamlined, freeing up staff to work on other value-adding activities.

Productivity improved when it comes to handling and processing production data. Rather than Adaptive ERP to its full capabilities, thanks to the training provided by Atturra.

This, in turn, has improved the decision-making processes for managers. They’re now confident they are viewing the most up-to-date information available when determining any changes required to the production runs.

Managers are also able to view key metrics such as inventory levels and sales demand. This resulted in them being more proactive and were then able to drive ongoing business growth.

Having the new manufacturing ERP platform in the cloud has also significantly improved the way in which company staff access all the information. They will now be able to take orders, check inventory levels, and successful order completion from almost anywhere.

FMF is now confident is has in place an ERP platform that can support its operations in the years ahead. It also looks forward to working closely with Atturra to take advantage of new features and capabilities as they are delivered.
